We truly believe that Tom Ford does everything he tries well. From his signature sultry designs that are worn by the hottest men and women all around the world to his award-winning films that showcase the cinematic portion of his creativity, it’s no exaggeration to call the man an icon. So, it’s of absolutely no surprise that his 4-year-old son Jack would pick up his father’s great style.
Most little boys his age are all about graphic T-shirts and hole-strewn denim from afternoons spent playing outside, but the youngest Ford is already establishing himself as a gentleman-to-be with his fashion choices. “Camel, camel, camel, camel, all he wanted was came,l” the legendary designer explained of his son’s most beloved hue of the moment in a recent interview with GQ. But Jack has gone into even more neutral territory of late, opting for all-black over everything else. Of his decision, Ford said, “Black doesn’t really look good on little children. You need to wear some color.” The toddler’s response? “Okay, gray.” Dare we say we’re onboard with the sartorial proclivities of someone at least two decades our junior?

But like his father, Jack absolutely loves to have fun with fashion. And fun for a 4-year-old equals light-up shoes! Ford finds them problematic, but lets his little one wear them only when it’s fitting. The Nocturnal Animals director confessed that he asks his son, “What does Dada say about the dinosaur shoes?” to which Jack responds, “They’re tacky.” “And when are we allowed to wear them?” the dialogue continues. “On weekends,” is the child’s reluctant response. To meet both of their desires, Ford lets him wear velcro-accented Adidas Stan Smiths ($55; nordstrom.com): a chic pair if ever there was one.
