As reported by L’Équipe, Monaco’s transfer window is likely to be an active one but, much like last season, the club faces uncertainty due to Champions League qualifiers at the start of the next campaign.

Nevertheless, sporting director Paul Mitchell is looking to add between three and five players to the Monaco squad but a major overhaul is unlikely due to new coach Phillipe Clement’s rejuvenation of the side. Having initially struggled for balance under Clement, Monaco won nine games in a row at the end of last season and started the final day in second place before a late equaliser conceded at Lens saw them drop to third.

Monaco will likely enjoy a sizable transfer budget this summer too with Aurélien Tchouaméni’s impending move to Real Madrid expected to make the club €100m including bonuses, after an €80m initial fee. Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappé’s surprise contract renewal at PSG will see the club gain a €35m windfall due to a clause in his 2017 move between the clubs.

Although exact figures haven’t been reported, Monaco’s current spending power could in theory outstrip PSG’s, whose budget could already have dropped below €50m before player sales. A defensive midfielder to replace Tchouaméni will be a priority.
