Romanian forward Rares Ilie on the verge of Nice move

As reported by Santi Aouna, Rapid Bucharest’s Rares Ilie (19) is on the verge of signing for OGC Nice after a major shareholder of the Romanian club confirmed that an agreement for the transfer had been reached.

Speaking to Prosport, Vitor Angelescu, a major shareholder at the club, said, “I sold Ilie. We came to an agreement with the French club and all we need to do now is sign the contracts.”

Earlier in the day, L’Équipe had reported that Nice had made a €5m bid (including bonuses) for the Romanian U19 international. Ilie can play at left-wing, but can also play in the number 10. role or further back in the central midfield. He featured in this summer’s Euro U19 tournament as Romania failed to make it out of the group stages.

In the Romanian top flight last season, he scored six goals and registered an impressive 10 assists. Nice have experienced a quiet transfer window thus far, leading new manager Lucien Favre to call for the club to be more active in the market.
