Lyon to organise charity match for Ukrainian children

Lyon have announced today that a charity match will be organised in May at their Groupama Stadium to raise funds to help protect Ukrainian children amid the Russian invasion.

The game will see a UNICEF legends team take the field against a line-up of former Lyon players, in the second edition of the “Match des héros” first organised by Marseille in October for Ivorian children.

The 20th anniversary of Lyon’s first league title will also be celebrated. The OL legends team will feature the likes of former strikers Sonny Anderson and Sidney Govou, goalkeeper Grégory Coupet, defender Cris and midfielder Michael Essien. Former NBA star and president of the ASVEL basketball club Tony Parker will also feature.

Team UNICEF will include former players Robert Pires, Christian Karembeu, Laure Boulleau and Claudio Marchisio, as well as French media personalities.
