In a press conference yesterday, Tanguy Ndombele (25), who joined Lyon on loan from Tottenham on deadline day until the end of the season, described his return to the club where he spent two years as a “risk”.
“Coming back could damage my image,” explained the French midfielder, who left Lyon for €60 million in July 2019, making him Tottenham’s most expensive signing.
“There were discussions with quite a few clubs,” he said, however, “it’s true that I know Lyon well and, weighing up the pros and cons, I have three and a half months before the end of the season and I think OL is not a bad idea for me, even if I hesitated a bit.”
On his time in England, Ndombele explained: “At Tottenham, I had five managers in two and a half years. That’s complicated for all the players. You have to get used to all the coaches. It’s true I had a bit of trouble at Tottenham.”
However, the 25-year-old does believe that he “became a better player in England, even if it hasn’t gone too well.”
