L’Équipe report that Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas will be in Portugal on Wednesday in an attempt to close a deal with Benfica for 21-year-old central defender Ruben Dias.
After missing out on Yerry Mina, who joined Everton from Barcelona last week, OL representatives are focusing on Dias as their primary target at centre back.
Benfica have turned down an initial €30m proposal from Lyon for the player, but agreed to take up negotiations again after their Champions’ League qualifying encounter with Fenerbahce, the 2nd leg of which plays out tomorrow, with the Portuguese side currently 1-0 up on aggregate.
Aulas had the following to say on the matter on OL TV:
“We are in discussions with Benfica, these are really big amounts. The decision is not easy. The player wants to come, we have to convince the club. We have another two targets in this position. We are working behind the scenes, with the possibility of making a big move before the end of the window.”
The player has a €45m release clause.
