Brumbies scrum-half Nic White made his mark when he scored a well-taken try in his team’s 23-17 victory over the Reds in their Super Rugby Pacific clash in Canberra on Saturday.
The home side had taken an early 3-0 lead when Noah Lolesio had slotted a penalty in the 11th minute and after an extended period camped inside the Reds’ half, the match came alive 15 minutes later when White crossed for his try.
This, after the 32-year-old ran onto a pass from Cadeyrn Neville deep inside the visitors’ 22.
White then beat Dane Zander with a deft side-step before making a dash for the try-line and despite the combined efforts of Liam Wright, Ryan Smith and Seru Uru the diminutive number nine barged over the whitewash.

That score was converted by Lolesio, who added another three-pointer off the kicking tee in 32nd minute which meant the Brumbies were holding a 13-0 lead at half-time.

The Reds made a good start to the second half when, shortly after the restart, Harry Wilson went over for their first try, which was converted by James O’Connor.
Lolesio succeeded with his third penalty in the 50th minute which gave his side a 16-7 lead, but the Reds struck back when Jordan Petaia showed what a great athlete he is when he outjumped the Brumbies defence to gather a chip kick from O’Connor before dotting down.
Shortly afterwards, Lachlan Lonergan crossed for the Brumbies’ second try which Lolesio converted to put more daylight between his side and the visitors. The Reds did not surrender, however, and in the 70th minute Petaia went over for his second try.
That meant that the closing stages were tense for the home side but they did well to close out the game and, in doing so, they maintained their winning start after three rounds of Super Rugby Pacific.
