Japanese international Sakai joins Henri Bedimo and Saif-Eddine Khaoui as one of three signings for L’OM today, with this particular transfer being the most savvy.
The 26-year-old spent four seasons with Hannover in the German Bundesliga before being released at the end of last season, coinciding with the relegation of Hannover.
Sakai has also played at the 2010 & 2014 FIFA World Cups, and has 27 international caps under his belt, meaning his experience in top flight European football and at the highest international level with give Marseille a much needed experienced head in their ranks.
Sakai will be only the second Japanese player to ever play for L’OM, with Koji Nakata wearing the shirt prior to him.
