Olivia Munn Explains the Silver Lining of 2017’s Sexual Misconduct Allegations

While the latter part of 2017 has bared the widespread nature of sexual misconduct in the entertainment industry, Olivia Munn chooses to see the wave of confessions as empowering rather than disheartening.

After a New York Times story detailing decades of sexual harassment from Harvey Weinstein was published in October, the floodgates opened for countless actresses and other industry workers to come forward with their own stories, as they rallied around the #MeToo movement.

And, now the X-Men: Apocalypse star—who shared her own allegations of sexual misconduct against producer Brett Ratner in November—is opening up about the “amazing” changes she has witnessed as these revelations have come to light in a new interview with E! News.

The Newsroom alum explained that while it “feels like it’s a really sad time” for women, she sees this cathartic stage as the “first step of change.”

“For the people who have had to put up with it for a very long time, I can say from my own personal experience it’s actually a really, an amazing time right now because for some reason we don’t have to put up with it anymore and our voices and our pain matter,” she said. “That’s the first step of change but we have to be vigilant and we have to continue to see it through.”

Emphasizing that the fight is far from over, Munn said she is “really proud” of all the victims who’ve come out with their #MeToo stories, as she stressed the need for sustained momentum in the future.

“It’s really important to name names and support the people who come out and speak up,” she said.

We can’t argue with you there, Olivia!
