‘Flying Bulldog’, World’s Largest Bee That’s The Size Of Your Thumb, Found Again After 40 Years

In a great encouragement for nature and wildlife, the world’s largest bee with rough size of a human thumb has been rediscovered in hinterlands of Indonesia nearly after 40 years, the researchers said on Thursday. The Global Wildlife Conservation said and was quoted by AFP that despite a big size, no had noticed the giant be until 19th century when British naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace discovered it and was nicknamed the bee as “flying bulldog” in the wild in 1981. The bee is also called Wallace’s giant bee.

“To actually see how beautiful and big the species is in life, to hear the sound of its giant wings… was just incredible,” said Clay Bolt, a specialist bee photographer who snapped the enormous insect.
