Calling out all coffee lovers! There’s a warning.
A California judge recently ruled that coffee companies in California must carry a warning label because of a chemical produced while bean roast.
“The lawsuit targets Starbucks and dozens of other coffee purveyors under the state’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, which requires companies with more than 10 employees to warn their customers about the prevalence of carcinogenic and toxic chemicals in their products”, reports National Public Radio.
Acrylamide, a chemical compound that is produced naturally in the preparation of certain foods like the roasting of coffee beans, is on the state’s list of chemicals known to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity.
