The Rolling Stones have postponed their upcoming tour dates for the United States and Canada because of Mick Jagger’s health, the band said in a statement Saturday.
“Mick has been advised by doctors that he cannot go on tour at this time, as he needs medical treatment,” the statement said. “The doctors have advised Mick that he is expected to make a complete recovery so that he can go back on stage as soon as possible.”
The band apologized to fans who have already purchased tickets but said that those tickets would be valid for the rescheduled dates.
The new dates will be announced shortly, the statement said.
“I’m so sorry to all our fans in America & Canada with tickets,” Jagger, 75, said in a tweet Saturday. “I really hate letting you down like this. I’m devastated for having to postpone the tour but I will be working very hard to be back on stage as soon as I can. Once again, huge apologies to everyone.”
The original tour in the United States and Canada was scheduled to begin April 20.
