The city of Miami, Florida is in the running to host another WrestleMania, reports the Miami Herald.
On Tuesday, the NFL awarded South Florida the Super Bowl in 2020. According to the Herald, the region is looking to host WrestleMania in 2018, 2019, or 2020.
Local organizer submitted a bit to WWE in February and they are waiting to hear back on a decision. The bid was a collaborative effort of the Miami Dolphins, the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Miami Beach Convention Center, and the AmericanAirlines Arena/Miami Heat Group.
The Miami Dolphins organization spent about $450 million in renovations to their stadium, according to ESPN, in hopes of luring the Super Bowl back to the city. That investment paid off Tuesday. Adding WrestleMania to the venue’s special events calendar would also help generate a return on the investment.
WrestleMania is returning to Florida in 2017 after Orlando officials completed renovations to the Citrus Bowl (since renamed Camping World Stadium). If Miami gets a Mania bid, it’s unlikely WWE would return to Florida in back-to-back years, which would push Miami closer to 2019 or 2020 when the Super Bowl returns.
WWE held WM28 at then-Sun Life Stadium in Miami in April 2012 for the famous “Once In a Lifetime” clash between The Rock and John Cena.
