After weeks of build, Velveteen Dream is getting his shot at Adam Cole’s NXT Championship.
It was announced tonight that Cole vs. Dream for the NXT Championship will air on next Wednesday’s NXT episode. WWE began building to Cole defending his title against Dream prior to NXT TakeOver: Tampa being canceled.
A promo from Cole aired on NXT tonight. Cole said he stands by the fact that Dream doesn’t deserve a shot at his title, but he’s going to show out as the greatest NXT Champion there has ever been and continue being the longest reigning NXT Champion of all time.
The title match comes after Dream pinned Cole in a tag team match in the main event of last week’s NXT. Dream & Dexter Lumis defeated Undisputed Era’s Cole & Roderick Strong in the match, with Lumis replacing Keith Lee as Dream’s partner while the match was going on. There was an angle where Damian Priest attacked Lee and took him out by hitting him in the throat with a nighstick.
Last Friday, Dream (real name Patrick Clark) issued a statement denying an allegation of inappropriate behavior that was made against him: “Be assured I did not communicate inappropriately with anyone. A private photo of mine was shared without my consent or knowledge and I am working with a third party to look into this matter.”
The allegation was made by a Reddit user who claimed that Dream was sending them and their friends messages of a sexual nature through Instagram direct messages. The Reddit user wrote that they were 17 years old and their friends were 15 and 16.
The NXT Women’s Championship will also be on the line next week. Charlotte Flair will defend her title against Io Shirai.
