In a trailer for Amazon Prime Video‘s football programme Dimanche Soir Football, which will be aired tonight at 7pm local time, Téji Savanier (30) was interviewed about his prospects with the national team, for whom he has never played, despite consistent form in Ligue 1.
Having represented France in the Tokyo Olympics last summer, Savanier said: “The coach called me up and I was really surprised because never in my whole life did I think I’d play at the Olympic Games.”
Having been asked whether he agreed immediately to playing, the 30-year-old responded, “yes without even thinking about it.” He continued, “it was a great experience. It was a huge pleasure to wear the shirt, sing the Marseillaise. It gives you goosebumps.”
The conversation progressed towards the possibility of playing for the French first team. “I get asked a lot of questions about the A’s, but I don’t get worked up about it. I prefer to play well with my club, and if I do that, then we can talk about me and the French team. Frankly it’s a dream.”
The Montpellier midfielder continued, “for sure it would be a dream to pass to Kylian Mbappé, Antoine Griezmann or Karim Benzema. But as I said it remains a dream.”
The next international matches for Les Bleus will come in March in the form of friendlies against Côte d’Ivoire and South Africa.
