Leonardo Jardim has two matches to save his job – L’Équipe

L’Équipe report that AS Monaco manager Leonardo Jardim’s future will largely play out this evening in tonight’s Ligue 1 match away to Reims.

The Principality side’s decision-makers feel that tonight is a must-win game, but owing to the fact that the next match is on Tuesday, against OGC Nice, they may give him that fixture as his last chance saloon.

The outlet claims that Jardim’s power has been diminished at the club since the departure of Vice President Vadim Vasilyev and following the arrival of Director General Oleg Petrov, who has no prior footballing experience. Petrov has not been helped upon his arrival by Technical Director Olga Dementieva, who had been by Vasilyev’s side, as she does not know anything about football either, having previously been charged with the administrative duties.

ASM are reportedly actively seeking to hire a Sporting Director following the departure of Michael Emenalo who Jardim refused to work with.

Following an emergency team meeting on Tuesday, the squad demanded that Jardim reinstate the 3-5-2 formation, which got them a 2-2 draw at Strasbourg on the 1st of September. The meeting has been described as constructive, with everyone speaking for over an hour.

Jardim has not been helped by the poor performances of certain individuals. Left-back Fodé Ballo-Touré is a good example – Jardim warned the French youth international on multiple occasions before Sunday’s Marseille game to pay attention to OM counters, which he rather brainlessly failed to do, even though it did not lead directly to a goal. As of Thursday, Jardim was considering dropping the ex-Lille man for new signing Arthur Zagre from PSG.

Claude Puel’s name continues to be whispered in the background in the meanwhile. Jardim will have to do without Islam Slimani and Wissam Ben Yedder tonight, with both men suffering injuries.
