Kevin Spacey To Be Charged In Alleged Nantucket Sexual Assault

NANTUCKET, MA — Kevin Spacey will be arraigned the first week of the new year on a felony charge related to a ex-local TV news anchor’s accusation that he sexually assaulted her teenage son, the Boston Globe first reported Monday. Spacey is due to be arraigned on a charge of indecent assault and battery in Nantucket District Court on Jan. 7, Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe said.

Former Boston WCVB-TV news anchor Heather Unruh said in November 2017 the now-disgraced actor got her son drunk and stuck his hand down her son’s pants the year prior. Unruh said her son, then 18, was at The Club Car, a Nantucket restaurant when he met Spacey. Unruh said Spacey bought alcohol for her “starstruck” son and when the teen was drunk, Spacey put his hand down her son’s pants and grabbed his genitals.

Unruh said her son told Spacey he was old enough to drink.

“Shame on you for what you did to my son,” Unruh said through tears at a news conference last year. “Your actions are criminal.”

Unruh said her son was a “starstruck, straight 18-year-old young man who had no idea that the famous actor was an alleged sexual predator or that he was about to become his next victim.”

She said her son reported the incident to Nantucket Police in the fall of 2017.

Unruh’s son is being represented by Mitchell Garabedian, the Boston attorney featured in “Spotlight.”

“The complainant has shown a tremendous amount of courage in coming forward,” Garabedian said in a statement to local news outlets. “Let the facts be presented, the relevant law applied and a just and fair verdict rendered.

It’s not the first accusation of sexual assault against Spacey. The 59-year-old actor was notably removed from “House of Cards” following a number of accusations. After one of the accusations, Spacey apologized and came out as gay.

Shortly after the Globe’s initial report Monday, Spacey posted a YouTube clip called “Let Me Be Frank.” In the perplexing three-minute long clip, Spacey appears to assume the role of the menacing Frank Underwood from “House of Cards” and rhetorically asks the viewer whether they’d believe accusations without evidence. He also says people want him to admit that the accusations against him are true.

Here’s a snippet of the monologue:

“I know what you want. Oh sure, they may have tried to separate us but what we have is too strong, it’s too powerful. I mean after all, we shared everything, you and I. I told you my deepest darkest secrets. I showed you exactly what people are capable of. I shocked you with my honesty. But mostly, I challenged you. I made you think. And you trusted me even though you knew you shouldn’t. So we’re not done no matter what anyone says. I know what you want. You want me back.”
